The purpose of this privacy policy is to inform you of RRECQ’s privacy practices when you visit www.rrecq.ca

Scope of the policy

This policy applies only to the RRECQ website.

Personal information and privacy

Personal information includes name, gender, address, postal code, telephone number, date of birth, member information such as disciplines and interests, history of involvement with RRECQ and information required to maintain a relationship with RRECQ.

Personal information does not include anonymous or aggregate information that does not personally identify an individual.

Responsibility

RRECQ accepts full responsibility for the protection of personal information in its possession or control. The Privacy Officer is accountable for the organization’s compliance with this policy.

The duties of the Privacy Officer are as follows:

  • To develop and regularly review RRECQ’s policies and practices to ensure consistent implementation and compliance.
  • Ensure that all individuals employed by RRECQ are trained in privacy best practices and are aware of the importance of protecting all personal information to which they have access.
  • Ensure that all privacy-related requests and complaints are handled appropriately.
  • Ensure that all third parties to whom RRECQ gives access to personal information comply with the relevant standards of care in information management.

Security

The server on which the RRECQ site is hosted is protected by firewall technology.

The site uses the SSL (Secure Socket Layer) security protocol, which guarantees the confidentiality and integrity of data exchanged between your computer equipment and the server. The use of an electronic certificate also guarantees visitors that their computer is communicating with the right server.

However, no security mechanism is perfect and you should be aware that there is always a certain level of risk that the personal information you transmit to us may be disclosed without your consent and through no fault of RRECQ. RRECQ will not be liable for any such disclosure of your confidential information, except in the case of gross negligence or gross negligence on the part of RRECQ.

The RRECQ website is hosted in Quebec.

Information transmitted automatically

When you access the RRECQ website, your computer and the website server automatically exchange information. This automatic communication is necessary so that the server can send you a file compatible with the computer equipment you are using. The information exchanged is as follows :

  • the domain name of your Internet service provider;
  • your IP address (e.g. 123.123.123) (a number automatically assigned to your computer by your ISP every time you surf the Web);
  • the type of browser (e.g. Firefox, Explorer, Chrome) and operating system (e.g. Windows, Mac OS) you use;
  • the pages you visit;
  • the date and time you access these pages;
  • the address of the referring site, when you access the RRECQ website from another website.

RRECQ keeps this data for statistical purposes. It is used to count the number of visits, the most frequently visited pages, the technology used by visitors, the referring sites and the country of origin of visitors.

Use of cookies

Some applications used on the RRECQ site use cookies to facilitate your browsing. These cookies do not collect any personal information that could identify you. In particular, they are used to determine your language preference. You can set your browser to block cookies at any time. However, if you do so, you may not be able to use certain functions of the site.

Use of Google Analytics

The RRECQ website uses Google Analytics, a web analysis tool provided by Google.

Using cookies, Google Analytics collects information about your browsing habits, such as the pages you visit, the date and time of your visit and the links you click. It also collects your computer’s operating system, the name of your Internet service provider and your geographical location. Google Analytics uses this information to produce statistics and reports on navigation.

The data and your IP address are stored by Google on servers located in the United States in particular, which means that access to this information will be subject to the jurisdiction of local laws and courts. In this respect, it is important to note that the anonymization function of Google Analytics will not be activated and that they will retain your full IP address.

Google Analytics may pass on this data to third parties if it is required to do so by law or if such third parties process the data on its behalf.

You can use the Google Analytics deactivation add-on on your computer. This module prevents Google Analytics from recording data about your visits. Please note that even if the module is installed, some data may be stored on RRECQ servers.

To opt out of the Google Analytics application, visit: https://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout.

For more information on the use of Google Analytics, please visit: http://www.google.com/analytics/.

Collection of personal information

When you browse our Web site, RRECQ does not automatically gather any personal information about you without your consent (except for the information mentioned in the Automatically Transmitted Information section of this policy). RRECQ can only obtain this type of information if you provide it, for example, in an e-mail or by filling out an online form.

If you voluntarily communicate personal information to RRECQ, by e-mail, form or otherwise, RRECQ will use this information to enable its staff to respond to your message or process your request, in accordance with its mission.

Electronic correspondence is treated with the same confidentiality measures as written documents. In this respect, we remind you of the risks inherent in using e-mail to transmit personal information. However, if you have sent us personal information, you consent to RRECQ replying to you by e-mail as well.

If you use a computer in a public place or one that is shared with other users, we recommend that you erase your browsing history before ending your session.

Retention of personal information

RRECQ retains your personal information only as long as is reasonably necessary for the purposes set out in this policy or as required by law.

Contact list for distribution purposes

RRECQ establishes a mailing list to inform subscribers about news from RRECQ and its partners (funding offers, press releases, invitations, etc.).

By completing the subscription form to receive RRECQ news, you agree that RRECQ may keep this information and use it to provide you with information by e-mail in connection with its communication, mobilization and outreach mandate.

This information will be accessible to RRECQ employees and the Centre d’études et de recherches intersectorielles en économie circulaire (CERIEC), which supports RRECQ activities.

You are under no obligation to agree to complete this form or to be on our contact list for distribution purposes. This list is kept separate from the administrative information held on RRECQ members. Therefore, you do not need to be on the mailing list to obtain or hold RRECQ research funding. However, if you are not on our mailing list, you will not receive information about RRECQ activities.

You can access your subscription form at any time to rectify or update the data you have previously provided to subscribe to our mailing list. You can also unsubscribe from this list by returning to your form and unchecking the appropriate boxes.

Accessing, modifying or withdrawing personal information, or submitting a request for information or a complaint

RRECQ ensures that the personal information it collects is as accurate, complete and up-to-date as necessary for the purposes for which it is used. You have the right to request access to the personal information we have collected about you, and to correct it if necessary. Such requests, questions about this policy, comments or concerns about our privacy practices may be sent in writing to our Privacy Officer, Raphaël Dias Brandao, at info@rrecq.ca.
