Biography

Malick DIOUARA holds a PhD in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from Cheikh Anta DIOP University (UCAD) in Senegal and Montpellier University in France. After his postdoctoral experience in bioinformatics at the Université du Québec à Montréal (Canada), he joined the Chemical Engineering and Applied Biology Department of UCAD's École Supérieure Polytechnique (ESP) as a Lecturer-Researcher in 2018. Mr. DIOUARA is in charge of training for the Diplôme d'ingénieur en Génie Biologique et Biotechnologies. He is in charge of teaching Molecular Biology and Genomics. He coordinates the activities of the Applied Biotechnologies and Environmental Bioprocesses Research Group (GRBA-BE). His research interests lie at the Health & Environment interface, notably: (i) innovative tools and applications in molecular diagnostics and epidemiological surveillance of emerging and re-emerging pathogens, (ii) environmental DNA (eDNA) - genetic diversity and antimicrobial resistance (AMR), (iii) genomics - infectious diseases and food safety. His current work focuses on the molecular epidemiology of hepatitis E virus (HEV) in Senegal. Current investigations are focusing on human populations, food matrices (fruit, vegetables, meat products, drinking water), domestic fauna and the environment (through wastewater mixed with rainwater during flooding episodes), all using a single-health approach. Mr. DIOUARA is also passionate about scientific diplomacy.
