Description

This research project proposes to analyze the climate and energy challenges of circular economy initiatives in Quebec's agricultural and agri-food SMEs in order to identify best practices in this field, the obstacles encountered and the most effective means of overcoming them. Agricultural and agri-food businesses are facing complex challenges linked in particular to climate change, the energy transition and inflation in the price of agricultural products, which is increasing the economic precariousness of many SMEs in this sector. These challenges tend to reinforce the relevance of circular economy practices, which are generally considered to be particularly effective in substantially reducing the environmental impacts of agricultural and agri-food activities, notably in terms of minimizing resource consumption, waste and pollutant discharges, while improving economic efficiency.
