Description

Launched by Laval University’s Center for Research in Accounting and Sustainable Development (CerCeDD), the MicroLabs project is part of a collaborative effort aimed at rethinking the management of material resources in hospitals. These participatory workshops are based on CERIEC’s ÉLEC methodology and bring together various stakeholders from the healthcare network to collectively explore sustainable solutions for the consumption, treatment, and disposal of materials.

Four MicroLabs have been held to date, focusing respectively on material management in the operating room, the implementation of a material recovery strategy in a hospital, the consumption and use of disposable gowns and sterile drapes, and the consumption and use of intravenous bags and tubing.

Led by Marc Journeault, a professor at the School of Accounting, and supported by the MELCCFP and the MSSS, the project builds on previous work about flow material analysis in hospitals. It aims to move from observation to action by developing, at various levels of the healthcare system, concrete solutions to challenges related to the consumption and management of material resources. The report (below) presents the approach and implementation process of the MicroLabs, as well as the results obtained and their analysis for each of the four issues studied.
