Biography

Sophie L. Van Neste is a professor at INRS and holder of the Canada Research Chair in Urban Climate Action. The Chair aims to analyze and contribute to different forms of collective action for the socio-ecological transition, through comparative research and partnerships rooted in local environments. Its team is working in particular on transformations in urban infrastructures, mobilizations for climate justice and citizen and community initiatives.

She launched the Répertoire des recherches: Villes, Climat, Inégalités to support the dissemination of knowledge on equity issues in climate action.

She is co-director of the Labo Équité Climat, which aims to raise awareness of equity issues among those involved in adapting to climate change. She recently published the book Transitions socioécologiques et milieux de vie, which looks at citizen initiatives in social-ecological transition that can belong to the broad field of the circular economy https://pum.umontreal.ca/catalogue/transitions_socioecologiques_et_milieux_de_vie.
