Biography

Samira Chbouki, Ph.D., Agr. is coordinator of the Bio.Enviro.In biofood and environmental innovation center, affiliated with the Cégep de Lanaudière in Joliette. She has worked for some fifteen years as a teacher-researcher at Joliette's constituent college, and her research focuses on improving biofood production within a global perspective of sustainable development and the circular economy. She has carried out numerous projects on alternatives to chemical fertilizers in agriculture and horticulture, and has won several awards for her work on the agricultural valorization of dehydrated or vermicomposted organic residues. Holder of a PhD in plant production and climate change from the Institut Agronomique et Vétérinaire Hassan II in Morocco in 2001, she completed her postdoctoral training at the Université de Sherbrooke in plant growth modelling. Prior to her arrival in Quebec, she worked for some fifteen years as a full professor in the Biology Department at the Université Sidi Med Ben Abdellah-Fès in Morocco.

Aware that green economies will aggressively pursue their conquest of Quebec markets, and that Quebec biofood companies will have to focus on value-added production with eco-responsible labels to position themselves in these emerging markets, Samira Chbouki, Ph.D., Agr. supports these companies and offers her research and development expertise in a global perspective of sustainable agriculture and the circular economy.
