Biography

Patrice Rivard is a full professor in the Department of Civil and Building Engineering at the University of Sherbrooke, where he is director of the Rock Mechanics and Non-Destructive Testing Laboratory and teaches engineering geology and rock mechanics. Professor Rivard obtained a bachelor's degree in geological engineering from the École Polytechnique in 1995, as well as a doctorate in civil engineering completed under joint supervision between the University of Sherbrooke and INSA Toulouse in France in 2002. He also holds a graduate teaching certificate. His expertise lies mainly in applied geology and rock mechanics. He has also led several research projects aimed at promoting the use of dredged sand and mining residues for civil engineering applications. Since January 2024, Prof. Rivard has held the position of Vice-Dean of Graduate Studies in the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Sherbrooke.
