Biography
Nicolas Lavoie is a professor at the Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM). He specializes in urban planning, urban design, territorial foresight, innovative design and vulnerability mitigation. During his doctoral studies, which ended in 2021, he also collaborated with Université de Montréal professors Christophe Abrassart and Franck Scherrer in the “Ville et prospective” Laboratory to federate research in this field. He is now collaborating with the Chaire internationale sur les usages et pratiques de la ville intelligente on a “Quartier alimentaire” project. Prior to this, he worked for nearly 20 years as an urban planner with the City of Montreal. He was notably involved in the success of the Le Triangle project. Prior to his arrival at UQAM, he worked on the planning of the Namur-Hippodrome district, a vast 95-hectare area which, over the next 20 years, is set to become a living environment for almost 40,000 new people.
