Biography
Jean-François Boland is a full professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering at École de technologie supérieure (ÉTS). He is a graduate of ÉTS in electrical engineering (B.Eng., M.Eng.), holds a doctorate (Ph.D.) in electrical engineering from McGill University and an executive master's degree in business administration (EMBA) from KEDGE Business School in Paris. A passionate electrical engineer, an electrifying professor-researcher and a seasoned manager, he has more than 19 years' experience in the Québec academic world, including 10 years in management positions. His areas of research expertise include functional verification, digital avionics systems (IMA) and electronic system design (ESL). From 2015 to 2022, he served as Director of the Electrical Engineering Department at ÉTS. During this period, in 2019, he also served as president of the Canadian Association of Electrical and Computer Engineering Department Chairs. He is currently president of the Association des professeures et professeurs de l'École de technologie supérieure (APÉTS). He is renowned for his ability to bring teams together and lead high value-added transformations. He is actively involved in developing cutting-edge training and an innovative student experience. Concerned about the urgency of climate change, he heads the IDÉTS project, which aims to strengthen the sustainable engineering skills of future engineers. It's a way of meeting our society's need for sustainable innovation. Over the course of his career, he has received a number of awards and distinctions, including two awards of excellence from the ÉTS Board of Directors, for his teaching (2011) and community service (2013), as well as being named an honorary ambassador of ÉTS (2020).
