Biography
Jean-François Bissonnette is a geographer, and his research interests lie at the intersection of society and the environment. Jean-François earned a Ph.D. in geography from the University of Toronto, focusing on agricultural and agroforestry systems altered by oil palm cultivation in Indonesia. He served as a lecturer in the Department of Geography at the University of Montreal from 2013 to 2017. A professor in the Department of Geography at Laval University since 2018, his research focuses on analyzing the governance of forest and agricultural lands. His research helps document collaborative processes in land-use planning, governance models for community forestry initiatives, the sociopolitical challenges of biodiversity conservation, and perceptions of the environment. Jean-François teaches in the Sustainable Territorial Development program and instructs students in qualitative research methods. He is currently the director of the master’s programs in agroforestry at the Faculty of Forestry, Geography, and Geomatics at Laval University.
