Biography

Graduating with a PhD in molecular and cellular biology from the Université de Sherbrooke in 2018, Fatima Awwad has led several research projects in plant and synthetic biology, such as elucidating the mode of action of bacterial toxins, adding value to seaweed extracts, and producing pharmaceutical molecules in microalgae. Lecturer at UQTR and mentor to several hundred students. Following her studies, she held the position of R&D manager for the Algae-C company, and previously helped set up quality control laboratories in the food industry. Currently, she holds the position of project manager at the Cité de l'innovation circulaire et durable in Victoriaville, where she is involved in innovative circular economy projects in the agri-food sector, such as the Serre+ industrial waste recycling project, as well as supporting companies in the valorization of their effluents.
