Biography
Benjamin Herazo is an architect by training and holds a master’s degree in economics and a Ph.D. in urban planning from the University of Montreal. He has more than thirty years of experience in research, project management, and partnership coordination in the fields of urban planning, construction, sustainability, and territorial vulnerabilities.
He currently works as a research advisor and scientific coordinator at the Faculty of Planning at the University of Montreal, where he oversees interdisciplinary projects bringing together researchers, students, community organizations, businesses, and public sector stakeholders. His work focuses in particular on innovation in wood construction, the sustainability of the built environment, adaptation to climate change, alternative food systems, and issues related to housing and urban vulnerabilities.
Before moving to Canada, he held various positions as a professor, researcher, director, and dean at the Universidad Javeriana in Colombia for more than fifteen years. This experience fostered his interest in collaborative approaches that bridge scientific knowledge, professional practices, and community-based knowledge.
