Biography
Tikou Belem (Ph.D.) is a full professor in Geomechanics and Mining Geotechnics and in Geoenvironmental Engineering at the Institut de recherche en mines et en environnement (IRME) of the Université du Québec en Abitibi-Témiscamingue (UQAT). He has over 25 years' experience in applied research for the mining industry in the fields of responsible management of solid mine waste, rock mechanics and ground control. He also has nearly 27 years' experience teaching basic and engineering sciences in various programs at UQAT.
His fields of expertise include backfill recipe formulation, rheology and transport of mining backfill, design of mining backfill systems, hydromechanics of mining backfill and barricades, design and modeling of backfilled workings, backfill/rock wall interactions, instrumentation and in situ measurements, ground control, rock mechanics and geomechanics of composite backfills and backfilled mining workings.
