Andrée-Anne Hudon-Thibeault

Andrée-Anne Hudon Thibeault is a researcher in charge of agri-food projects at the Centre collégial de transfert technologique (CCTT) Écofaune boréale, which specializes in fur and leather tanning. The activities of this research center affiliated to the Cégep de Saint-Félicien are all geared towards an eco-responsible approach. This is reflected in innovative tanning techniques, the development of the tanning industry (ethical and responsible sourcing) and the optimization of the use of an animal that has been trapped, hunted or slaughtered, by making full use of its various parts (meat, skin, glands, fat, etc.). As part of Andrée-Anne's projects, innovative solutions are being developed to enhance the value of co-products from farm animals (skins, fibers such as wool or other co-products) through the circular economy. These new approaches must take into account animal welfare, social acceptability, environmental impact and economic profitability for the companies supported.

Her work at Écofaune boréale involves collaborating with both government agencies (MAPAQ, MÉI, MDDEP) and businesses such as slaughterhouses and agricultural producers. She also collaborates on various projects underway at the CCTT, including those in partnership with First Nations and Inuit on wild fur. The expertise developed in the laboratory cuts across the various projects, enabling all sectors (fur and hides from wild or farmed animals) to benefit.

Andrée-Anne Hudon Thibeault is an agronomist specializing in animal production. She completed her doctorate in the field of toxicology, which enabled her to develop skills in basic sciences that are useful in her work on the tanning process. Finally, her experience in supporting agricultural businesses, particularly young farmers, enables her to consider the issues and opportunities related to this environment, and to have a good understanding of how the agricultural sector operates. The circular economy is a new area of interest that responds to the agricultural issues she is working on at Écofaune boréale.
